What light temperature is recommended for catering and which for home?
13. January 2026.Why hotels that want the “wow effect” don’t choose generic blinds
Hotels that aim for the “wow effect” quickly realize one thing. Standard solutions from the catalog rarely create a strong impression. Generic blinds are correct, functional, and often affordable, but they rarely remain in the guest’s memory. And a hotel without a memorable impression can easily become just another place to sleep. In this context, custom blinds are not a luxury but a tool for differentiation.
The shadow is what the guest really sees
The guest does not analyze the technical specifications of the lighting. He sees the light, the shadow, and the atmosphere. This is where the shade takes on a major role. The shape, texture, and the way it diffuses the light directly affect the feeling of the space. Generic shades are mostly designed to “fit everywhere”, which in practice means that they do not leave a strong mark anywhere. Custom shades are the opposite. They are designed for a specific space, ceiling height, purpose, and the emotion that the hotel wants to convey.
In hotels that are serious about the guest experience, the lampshade is seen as part of the interior, not as an accessory to the lighting fixture. Therefore, we are already entering a zone where light becomes part of the identity.
When the history of space requires a special solution
One of Corda Lighting‘s latest projects was the creation of special ceiling lamps with custom shades for the almost 200-year-old, renowned Austrian Hotel Post, located in the picturesque town of Velden am Wörthersee. This task was not just a technical lighting solution. It was a project that had to respect the history of the space, the architecture, and the existing interior, but at the same time respond to the modern needs of the hotel and the expectations of today’s guests.
In such projects, generic shades simply have no place. Custom shades allow for precise control of light, adjustment of dimensions, materials, and character of lighting, without compromising the authenticity of the space. It is precisely this kind of collaboration, based on understanding the client’s needs and impeccable execution, that has always been the backbone of our work.
The wow effect doesn’t come from a catalog.
The “wow effect” in a hotel often comes from the details. Not from loud elements, but from those that are unobtrusive but impactful. Custom shades allow the lighting to naturally blend into the space, to emphasize its character, and to give the guest a feeling of comfort, not exposure. This is the difference between a hotel that looks good in a photo and a hotel where you want to stay.
